Living on Miami Beach, I see a lot luxury cruise ships all along the MacArthur Causeway that connects Miami Beach with the Mainland, these behemoth sea-ready vessels tie up for the next round of sun thirsty northerners and euros waiting for their chance to indulge in all-you-can-eat buffets and a half a day on any given Caribbean island.
While The Port of Miami houses 5 or 6 at any given time, the largest cruise ship lurks 3o minutes north at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.
The Allure of the Seas, completed in 2011 has been dubbed the largest cruise ship in the world, and comes in at an exhausting 50 mm longer than its sister ship, the Oasis of the Seas.
This beast is 1,187 feet long and rises to an impressive 236 feet above the waterline (don’t get drunk and fall off). Its three massive engines produce a whopping 24,780 hp (the average car has around 150 hp). The Allure of the Seas boasts 16 passenger decks with the capacity for 6,296 guests and 2,384 crew.
The ship showcases a multi-level dance hall, theater with 1,380 seats, and an ice skating rink! There are a slew of restaurants, bars, a massive casino with 250 slots and 27 gaming tables and a multitude of outdoor and indoor activities including plenty of pools.
